Emerging from an Original Equipment Manufacturing background, Flexlife was founded in 2007 by a driven team of flexible pipe experts who realised that aftermarket support for this product was often hard to obtain. Flexlife was founded specifically to address this need, and it still forms a key part of our ethos.
Flexlife’s early history brought a new level of independent technical expertise to the market. Our independence has given us an unprecedented view of flexible pipe which allows us to make unbiased decisions and advice that is best for the operator and continued operation of their assets.
Originally, Flexlife assisted in the design and specification of numerous riser systems, using our in-depth knowledge of the pipe manufacturing process to reduce the inherent project risk to the benefit of our oil & gas operating company clients. Safety is integral to everything we do and will never be compromised.
It became apparent that the level of riser annulus testing service offered to client’s by existing vendors was ‘more of an art than a science’. Flexlife chose to innovate, developing our portable equipment, now known as FlexScout, revolutionising annulus testing by adopting the, now commonplace, positive pressure testing method.
Flexlife continues to lead in this service and our skilled and experienced personnel take a real pride in ensuring that we return definitive data to our valued global client base. Flexlife has an enviable track record regularly obtaining definitive data where previous vendors have returned inconclusive results.
In their day’s as OEMs, Flexlife’s founders saw numerous flexible riser issues brought to them by their operating clients.
Yet, there were no proven options on the market to repair these pipes. At this time, replacement was the only option.
Flexlife’s founders set out to change this by developing new tools and technologies to inspect, repair, or mitigate common flexible riser issues, extending the life of pipes in operation, without costly replacement.
The company values innovation and has several unique patented technologies including our FlexScan service which utilises Ultrasonic Non Destructive Testing subsea to scan unbonded flexible pipes. This technology has proven invaluable, allowing operators to refine fatigue modelling to suit the actual riser annulus condition. Flexlife has scanned risers all over the globe from Brazil to Malaysia, Norway to Australia, from 6m below sea level to 2600m down in the abyssal depths.
Our client’s requirements have resulted in numerous other innovations including several unique repair methods, corrosion mitigation products, fatigue modelling using artificial intelligence, bespoke monitoring systems and even a low cost, standardised subsea tieback solution.
