The problem

A client informed Flexlife that a leak was reported coming through the annulus vents on the topside end termination of one of their flexible risers with a 55°structure. Testing needed to be conducted to conclude the failure mode of the riser for insurance purposes.

Our solution

Flexlife engineers conducted a vigorous testing regime including vacuum and positive pressure testing of the internal bore. This testing ruled out various failure modes previously thought to be problematic, concluded some unknown integrity issues and assisted the client with some guidance of areas to further explore. The project was able to contribute valuable data relating to the integrity of the end fitting seals into the sound failure mode analysis so informing the client’s CAPEX decision-making process.
