The problem

The client wanted to ascertain information on the integrity of their risers. These risers are hung off below a riser balcony and are relatively inaccessible. Due to the age of the risers the vent ports have become blocked and using conventional topside integrity assessments are not possible. Flexlife were awarded a contract for a provision of ultrasonic scanning, subsequently repeated on a regular basis.

Our solution

Data gathered from the scope of work enabled the client to adequately document the integrity of the outer sheaths and wire thickness measurements. This information is trended to formulate an overall integrity assessment on the risers - the conclusion was that the risers, close to the end of their predicted shelf, could continue in operation thereby permitting a phased approach to replacement, and therefore no lost production.
